Meteorix interpretation
The map uses daily NOAA OISST SST anomalies and calculates the current average for the four Niño regions. White boxes mark Niño 4, Niño 3.4, Niño 3 and Niño 1+2.
Important: “Warm/cold signal” describes only the daily ocean anomaly. It does not replace the official El Niño or La Niña classification, which accounts for persistence and ocean-atmosphere coupling.
Official monitoring and forecast
Meteorix links to official sources for formal ENSO status and forecasts that complement this daily map.
Map data: NOAA/NCEI OISST v2.1 · 0.25° resolution. Regional averages are calculated by Meteorix from daily OISST fields and are not ONI or RONI.
